Exploration of Careers in Visual Arts: How to put together a Visual Arts Project Planning Proposal
Materials: pencil or pen, large paper for brain storming, copy of visual arts curriculum for your grade, career exploration planning form, access to the web for research
Step 1: choose a career that clearly involves the visual arts
Step 2: research examples of people past and present that make a living in this career and appear to be really good at what they do
Step.3: list the first and last names or web domain of those people on the planning form in the proper box.
Step 4: read their website content and look at their work then on the brain storming paper describe / or draw examples of what they do or make
Step 5: discus what skills you think that person would need to learn to do their job, write down your ideas on the brain storming sheet
Step 6: read over ALL of the "curricular competencies" and "content" phrases in the visual arts curriculum. Pick only one competency and one content phrase that BEST fits with the visual arts career you are exploring. Write down these phrases on the brain storming sheet.
Step 7: choose a specific example of what your career produces or makes (example: app logo, 3D drawings of future buildings, animation character, book illustrations) Write down and describe this finishing product on your brain storming sheet.
Step 8: discuss what the basic steps would be to make this item. Write each step down on your brain storming sheet.
Step 9: Your group will present your career exploration project proposal to the class to get feedback. Decide who will talk to the class about each part of the project. Be prepared to use google to show the class examples of people who do this for a career.
Step 10: present your project proposal for feedback
Step 11: take the feedback from the class and teacher, refine your project proposal and finalize the ideas by writing them down CLEARLY on the project planning form.

Your first photography project involves creative uses of bokeh (look up examples). Using a shallow depth of field with the background blurred, use lights or some other objects in the background to create a blurred pattern in your photo. You MUST have a fully blurred background and one subject in sharp focus. But make it very creative. Experiment, don't just submit the first photo you compose.
You should by now have all your photos uploaded to one specific computer in the Art Studio, in Documents with a
Submit your photo by uploading it from the SD card into your Art Studio computer > Documents > Art 9/10 OR 11/12 Photography > folder with your first and last name. Title your image: firstname.last name.bokeh

Review what we have learned so far about the technical workings of the camera: aperature, depth of field, shutter speed
Work on large drawing focusing on realism and creating a 3D appearance, use a specific mark making strategy.
Read the article that explains exposure in photography and how to us the light meter. Go to Art How To's > Photography > Technical How To's > click on the link "Camera Exposure". Read this and record in your sketchbook three key things you learned. Also read the linked articles under the title, How to use your light meter. Record three key things you learned.
Sign out a studio camera with Mr. Preston. Go outside and compose one creative, in focus, well lite photograph using good bokeh which means having a shallow depth of field with a beautifully blurry background. Return the camera, take out the SD Card, upload your photo to your folder on one of the studio computers.
